FRI/12/APR

postfriday

Friday 12th April 2013 Daily

Friday is finally here again friends, and what a wonderful week of dailies and music we have had. Either you’re watching the clock tick down to 5 o’clock, revising for upcoming exams, or just chilling because that’s what you do. We have a lovely, eclectic offering of music for you to enjoy this Friday, with tracks from varied genres and varied eras. Put your feet up, or your dancing shoes on, and join us on this audible journey.

Slick Rick – Street Talkin’ Feat. Outkast

A little old school Hip-Hop to kick us off, and what better man to do so than the trans-atlantic legend that is Da Ruler, Slick Rick.

Wretch 32 – Blackout (T.Williams Remix)

Next up we have a Grime and Jackin’ House crossover, something not too many have pulled off with conviction. One of my favourite tracks at the moment. (H&B YouTube plug)

Artist Spotlight: Shadow Child

Shadow Child is absolutely killing it at the moment, pushing huge remixes, a track on Dirtybird Players Compilation and of course pulling in rave-loving, big-beat-lusting punters probably in a town near you. Like many recent Deep-House prodigies, Shadow Child brings a very distinctive sound to the table, but to put it in some sort of context its somewhere between MK’s melodic remix methods and the Dusky boys’ haunting use of sub bass. We’re massive fans, especially having seen him do his thing at Seedy Sonics, The Rainbow in recent months.

The first track here is a very recent remix of Hot Natured’s already massive track with Anabel Englund, “Reverse Skydiving”.

This next one exposes Shadow Child’s versatility in the ability to remix, a fantastic recreation of Alix Perez’ “Annie’s Song”, forthcoming on Shogun Audio.

We anticipate bigger, greater things for Shadow Child, not one to sleep on.

Jamie XX – Boiler Room 55 Min

Now I realise this isn’t Jamie XX’s most recent mix, nor is it his longest, but this set shows mixing ability and musical knowledge beyond some people who have been in the business for time. The MC Vapour remix at track two is a personal highlight for me. Take it away, the hardest working man in the music industry…

To Finish…

The final offering of today’s friday-feeling, timeline of audible pleasure is a classic. No doubt every person reading this will have heard this at some point over the last ten years. If you haven’t, you’re welcome, enjoy.

DJ Marky & XRS – LK Feat. Stamina MC
